Cluster structure prediction
Mr. Bolillo
Biography
Mr. Bolillo is a member of the Cabellos Research Group. With a keen nose for energy minima, he explores nanocluster structure and stability within the research themes of Dr. José Luis Cabellos Quiroz.
Education
- PhD in Computational Chemistry: low-energy gold and boron cluster structures using evolutionary algorithms and density functional theory (DFT).
- MSc in Materials Science: geometry, symmetry and stability of atomic aggregates.
- BSc in Nanotechnology Engineering: molecular modeling and electronic structure fundamentals.
Research
He generates candidate structures, optimizes their geometries and compares isomers to identify low-energy configurations. He also examines how multicenter bonding stabilizes unconventional structures.
Project: tracking the global minimum
His proposed computational atlas of gold nanoclusters connects relative energy, symmetry and bonding patterns. His laboratory rule: explore every corner of the energy surface before settling down for a nap.
Teaching and group life
He teaches Molecular Modeling, Introduction to DFT and Global Optimization. He supports students through their first calculations and supervises active breaks with four-legged enthusiasm.
