Optical properties and chemical bonding

Miss Osa

Biography

Miss Osa is a member of the Cabellos Research Group. Her specialty connects optical and electronic properties of materials with chemical bonding analysis, following the research themes of Dr. José Luis Cabellos Quiroz. Always alert to a glimmer of light, she investigates how structure determines optical response.

Education

  • PhD in Materials Science: electronic structure and optical response of doped crystals using first-principles methods.
  • MSc in Theoretical Chemistry: multicenter bonding, electron delocalization and aromaticity in unconventional systems.
  • BSc in Materials Engineering: solid-state physics and materials characterization.

Research

She analyzes densities of states, band structures and absorption spectra to study the effects of impurities in crystalline materials. Bonding analysis complements this work by explaining cluster stability and electronic properties.

Project: materials that leave their mark on light

She proposes comparing the optical response of alkali halide crystals with different dopants and connecting spectral changes to electronic structure. She also explores how electron delocalization affects small aggregates.

Teaching and group life

She teaches Solid-State Physics, Chemical Bonding and Optical Properties of Materials. She coordinates the scientific visualization seminar and examines every plot as closely as a new ball.
